West End Park, Cleckheaton project

West End Park report success in obtaining a grant of £12,000 from the Tesco Bag Scheme.

Martin Webster, Chair of Friends of West End Park reports

“Our project includes several elements but so far we have cleared an overgrown mound to improve safety, had the resultant stumps ground-out, using the grass and top-soil from the meadow area to smooth out the shape which was sown with grass seed, aka pigeon food! The cleared area of ‘Meadow’ was rotovated, then raked and sown.

We had previously planted a ‘hedgerow’ of shrubs and bushes along the windward two sides of the ‘meadow’ to provide protection and nesting-shelter. These came from other areas in the Park with the aim of reducing the mowing needs in those places.

As soon as the money arrives we will be arranging forestry works, repairs to a play area, installation of various bat bird, bee and beetle boxes and a couple of benches.”
