After months of fundraising, planning and volunteer work parties, capital work projects are due to start this November to improve the ‘ Duck Feeding Area’ at Norridge Bottom Car Park and Sands Recreation Area. Both projects will give much better access to the River Holme and improve the habitats there.

We hope to establish a regular volunteer group to care for the areas, ensuring they are kept tidy, encouraging people to feed the ducks with healthy alternatives to bread and kept up to date with information and ways to get involved with River Holme Connections.

If you would like to help care for the new areas, or have a group who would like to get involved please contact Lyze: 07532793458
Evaluating Our Work
We want to find out what you think of being a volunteer with River Holme Connections. We are commissioning experts from Information by Design to conduct an evaluation during the month of November. This will help us to improve our way of working with you, the volunteers, and give future funders an idea of how we operate.
As well as our existing participants, there will be a day of talking to passers -by to find out what ‘the general’ public think. We are looking for volunteers to take part in this alongside staff and professionals. If you can spare a few hours on Saturday 25th of November, and like talking to people, we would be most grateful for your help. Please email volunteering@riverholmeconnections.org, if you would like to be involved.

Invasive Species Update
Many thanks to those of you who have helped with invasives monitoring, talking to the public, delivering leaflets and letter writing to make tackling invasive species in our catchment. We have had a good reception from landowners and it has given us the chance to work downstream and in areas that were previously unknown to us. We still need to spread the word about Japanese knotweed and would welcome anybody who could give a presentation to a group on knotweed and invasives, there is a slideshow and all the equipment ready and waiting to go for willing volunteers. We hope to have a fundraising campaign in the near future, to make it easier for people to make a donation.
