Will future green space management be reliant on corporate sponsorship?

Environment Alliance has been exploring corporate sponsorship with its Greenstreams Project and several sites along the River Colne in Huddersfield are now managed with the support of local businesses.

“The formula seems to be working well” said Jeff Keenlyside of Environmental Alliance. “It appears that some companies are happy to pay for regular visits to sites for basic maintenance such as litter picking and the cutting back of vegetation. Other businesses are much more interested in their staff participating in the maintenance activities as this is personally rewarding for staff and ultimately the business.

Either way this is a good solution to managing those informal spaces which would otherwise receive little attention. You can find out more about the Greenstreams sponsorship scheme at www.greenstreams.org.uk
