After a fairly quiet January, things are starting to happen again in the park. We are also gearing up for another Annual General Meeting – last year seems to have flown by!
Here is the latest news and dates for your diary:
Ladies Night, Wednesday 28 February, 6pm to 9pm
Have a great night out with the girls in the Greenhead Park Conservatory – and help raise money for the Friends of Greenhead Park! Entry is free and shopping is the highlight of the night with local vendors offering products including jewellery, home decor, health & beauty, and fashion. There’ll also be a fully licensed bar, plus sweet treats – and you could win one of many fantastic prizes in a raffle on the night with all proceeds going to the Friends. You’ll find more details in the attached flyer.
Anyone for tennis?
If you’ve been meaning to get back into tennis or would like to meet new people to play, why not join the Greenhead Park Tennis League? This mixed-sex, singles league for adults (aged 18+) offers friendly competitive tennis on the park’s courts. Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard and arrange matches at times that suit them. There’s still time to sign up for the next round – but hurry, entries must be in by Monday 19 February at the latest.
Friends of Greenhead Park AGM, Saturday 17 March, 2pm
Everyone is welcome at our Annual General Meeting in the Greenhead Park Community Room (in the cafe building opposite the tennis courts). Hear about our activities and plans, raise park issues with our local councillors and Park staff and elect the committee for 2018/19. After the meeting there will be tea and cakes – and a chance for an informal chat. We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to help with projects or join the committee. If you’d like to know more about what’s involved, please contact us by e-mail or drop in at the Pavilion by the bowling greens any Wednesday afternoon between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
Bags of Help for our play train fund – if you give us your vote!
Thanks to many generous donors, we are well on the way to raising the funds needed to install a colourful play train unit in the toddler play area. And we’ve just heard the great news that our project has been chosen for a cash award from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. We are one of three groups shortlisted for our local area and could receive £1,000, £2,000 or £4,000 depending on how many people vote for us during March and April at the main Tesco store in Huddersfield and the Tesco Express stores in Marsh and Halifax Road. To help us scoop the top award, all you need to do is cast your vote with the token given to you at the checkout each time you shop in one of these stores.
Walk your way to health
As well as the popular Nordic walking (Fridays from 10am starting at the top cafe), you can now join a weekly walk organised by Walking for Health. Walks start at the Trinity Street gates every Thursday. These free Health Walks are suitable for all ages and abilities, particularly if you haven’t walked regularly for some time. They are led by a trained walk leader and are a great way to meet new people and enjoy a chat while doing something that can benefit your health. Call Toni on 01484 513213 to find out more.
Don’t forget to check out our website for up to date information on the Friends and events & activities in the park.
