Light up the Pleasure Grounds
Saturday 27th October. 6pm-8pm

This event is hosted by Meltham Walkers are Welcome and The Friends of Meltham Pleasure Grounds.

Anyone or any school or group in the area is welcome to join in the event.

The event is free and the rules are simple – make lights and lanterns from waste, recycled, up-cycled materials, let your imagination run riot. There is no theme, but if you’re stuck for ideas, how about Hallowe’en, Animals, Under the Sea, Butterflies, Bees, Fairies, Colours of the Rainbow, Transport or Outer Space!

Then, provide light by LED lights, outdoor battery lights, or solar lights (make sure they’re fully charged!) NO NAKED FLAMES PERMITTED. There is no mains electricity available. You can provide your own LED tea lights, or buy them from us on the day, providing you let us know in advance.

Arrive on the day to set your lanterns up at the Meltham Mills end of the Pleasure Grounds between 10-2pm. There is on-road parking available in the area, please show consideration to residents. We aim to have all the lanterns in place throughout the Pleasure Grounds by dusk, then we can walk you through our magical setting.

There will also be refreshments for sale and there will be a dance and light display from the Lauren Faye Dance School.

At the end of the event, please take your lanterns away for re-use at home or at your group – save them for the next event.

If you don’t get chance to make a lantern, come along anyway, we will have lots of colourful Glow Sticks for sale, so you can join in the fun!

If you are from a business, organisation, community group or school, you are welcome to add your name to your lantern display.

If you would like to “Light Up” a specific part of the park and have lots of lanterns, we’d be happy to discuss this with you.

We welcome interest from those with ideas to help grow the event – we would love to hear from musicians and poets especially.

We were inspired by the “Light Up The Woods” event last year and we are very grateful for their help and advice. Take a look at their Facebook page “Light Up The Woods” or our Facebook page, “Light Up The Pleasure Grounds”. In the next few weeks we will be posting lots of lantern making ideas and tips.
