About Environment Kirklees

Environment Kirklees is a separate  group of local people and organisations who want to make a difference about key global environmental challenges by taking action locally.

By encouraging creative working partnerships between environmental voluntary sector organisations, and other stakeholders – such as the council, the university and local business – we aim to make a difference.

By bringing people together, developing evidence-based research, we support community development and learning. Our projects have been on environmental education, local food and rivers. Our planned projects are on sustainable apprenticeships, water management and in promoting local initiatives on climate change.

From our 2015 climate conference, we are participating in or leading several working groups (sometimes with other stakeholders like Zero Carbon Yorkshire). These are on Low Carbon Transport, Sustainable Housing, Renewable Energy and the Local Economy. We are also supporting existing work to develop a local food strategy.

We welcome new partners (organisations and individuals) who wish to help shape and progress the local environmental sustainability agenda.
