River Holme Connections

Spa Wood Project

Proposal - We would like to carry out a range of biodiversity enhancement work in Spa Wood (Lockwood). This will include, litter picking, river clean-up work, control of invasive non-native plants (Himalayan balsam and rhododendron), management of bramble on a species rich grassland and small-scale woodland management work (outside the bird nesting season) such as thinning and coppicing work.

April 2021 - We carried out a total of four practical tasks which involved litter picking, river clean-up work, control of invasive non-native plants (Himalayan balsam and rhododendron), management of bramble on a species rich grassland and small-scale woodland management work (coppicing). A total of 36 people were involved and a total of 75 volunteer hours were contributed to the project.
